Welcome to Harris Classic Campers
Our names are Alan & Ellen McDougall. We have always had a passion for camping and the great outdoors. We first arrived to the Isle of Harris in our beloved camper " Vera" in 2001 and returned on many occasions.
The Isle of Harris is a magical place and It didn't take long for us to realise that Harris is where we needed to be. So we set off on an adventure of our own in 2008 to build our dream home and a self catering cottage " The La'al Bothy "
While all this was happening, our Vera was in storage in the north of England. It was only when the time was right to bring her back to Harris and the Outer Hebrides that the idea of Harris Classic Campers was Born.
Things happened quite fast since we rented a workshop nestled in the hillside at Seilabost. It overlooks the Campsite at Horgabost and out to the Isle of Taransay, the location for the famed castaway series, featuring Ben Fogle.
We have now have two fully restored classic Volkswagen Campervans named "Nora" and "Vera" and our our latest restoration is a 1963 Renault called "Gloria"
All our campers have been restored by ourselves, I do all the hard work! carpentry, mechanical and bodywork, then Ellen comes in last minute and steels all the glory, she makes everything look nice with her handmade curtains and cushions etc
" sometimes you just need a woman's touch "
